Microsoft finally brought its Office Mobile to Android smartphone several weeks ago as the Office Mobile for iPhone has been available since June this year. The app is free to download but will only support subscribers to Microsoft’s Office 365 Home Premium and ProPlus service. Guy Gilbert, the senior product manager, says that “the release of this app shows that we’re committed to keep providing additional value for Office 365 subscribers”.
Microsoft Office Mobile for Android includes the access to Word, Excel and Powerpoint but not creating them. Office 365 subscribers are allowed to view, edit and share the documents. Also, files or documents can be received and read when the computer is not available. Surely, the files can sync with Microsoft SkyDrive Web.
Office 365 subscribers should pay $100 each year that they can install the app on up to five devices, like PC, Mac and smartphone. All smartphone based on WP OS has installed Office Mobile by default. It still doesn’t work for Android tablets and iPad. Similarly, Office Mobile for iOS launched before only supports Office 365 subscribers.
Now, Office Mobile for Android is officially available in Google Play in the U.S. and more countries will be able to access the app in a few weeks. For the moment, the app only works for Android 4.0 version or above.
